ecodyfi press releaseNew Guide takes the fuss out of the bus

20 October 2003

Cover of the new local transport guideFinding your way round the Dyfi Valley by bus, train, bike and foot has just got a lot easier, thanks to a colourful new guide from the community regeneration group Ecodyfi.

Featuring a 'tube-style' bus and train map, the bi-lingual Guide shows you how to get between all the main places in the Valley. It's also packed with other useful information to help you get about without a car.

Five Transport Facts:

  • There's a new ticket for Arriva buses in North Wales for just £12 a week.

  • You can get to London by train for as little as £10, if you book in advance.

  • There's now a bus from Machynlleth to Aberystwyth every hour.

  • You can get 1/3 off local trains with the new Cambrian Railcard.

  • Anyone over 60 or disabled can go anywhere in Wales by bus for free.

The Guide is being delivered by post to every household in the Dyfi Valley over the next few months, so look out for your copy. You'll also get a handy timetable, with all the main bus and train services on just one page.

Nat Taplin and Lynn Sloman, who wrote the Guide, both live in the Valley and travel everywhere without cars. Nat Taplin said:

"You can get all round the area by bus for just £12 a week, and there's loads of them too. But they can be difficult to find out about. That's why we've written this guide. It's really clear and simple. Hopefully it'll tempt a few more people to leave the car behind and let the bus and train take the strain."

Notes

  • The Guide is designed to help local people and visitors get around the Dyfi Valley (including Tywyn, the Dysynni Valley, Borth and to/from Aberystwyth) by train, bus, bike and foot.

  • The Guide has been funded by Wales & Borders Trains and Powys and Gwynedd Councils.

  • The Guide will be delivered to over 10,000 households in the area between now and spring 2004.

  • The Guide will also be available from Tourist Information Centres, visitor attractions, rail stations and community venues.
