Help conserve our environment and improve our quality of life

press release15/3/2005

The National Public Health Service in Powys is launching an outdoor gym to help boost people's health in the Machynlleth area.

This is no ordinary gym, even without a roof - there are no rowing machines and exercise bikes.

It's a new programme designed to keep people fit while doing environmental work in a local forest or woodland.

Cerys Humphreys of the National Public Health Service in Powys said, "We are providing enjoyable opportunities for people to do environmental work and keep physically active at the same time.

"The work will provide excellent cardiovascular exercise, help build stamina and strength and be beneficial for emotional and mental wellbeing.

"It will also be fun and a good opportunity to meet new people."

There is a chance to find out more at a question and answer session at Machynlleth Leisure Centre between 9am and 1pm on Wednesday 16th March.

This will be followed by an hour's taster of the programme in the woods (meet at 1.30pm at the leisure centre.

(Free transport will be provided.)

The main programme starts on Wednesday 6th April starting at 10am and finishing at 1pm.

The outdoor gym is suitable for people with a wide range of conditions or just general fitness improvement.

It is open to all but people with a medical condition will need a letter from their doctor.
