ecodyfi press release22/10/04

People who live or work in the Powys part of the Dyfi Valley are being urged to have their say on the draft action plan for the area.

It contains proposals to improve the quality of life and vitality of the area.

The two community organisations that have been researching local needs have joined forces to sketch out a way forward.

Communities First and the Machynlleth & District Community Forum are keen to involve more people and businesses in planning for the future.

They have organized a "drop-in" session in Machynlleth Community Centre (Drill Hall) for Wednesday 3rd November, where people can comment on the proposals at any time between 10 and 3 o'clock.

There will then be a public meeting to amend and approve the plan at 7.30 the same evening in Ysgol Bro Ddyfi, Machynlleth.

Cyril Evans is the Co-ordinator of the Bro Ddyfi Communities First process.

"People have worked hard in village-based meetings to sort out all the ideas put forward by the community", he explained.

"Before we negotiate with those who have the power to make things happen £ which includes local community groups and individuals as well as the Council and Assembly by the way £ we need to be sure we're concentrating on the right things."

The Chair of the Community Forum, Andy Rowland, said he thought it may be most effective to concentrate on just a few of the themes as the community goes forward.

"We have identified more than 20 areas for action", he said, "ranging from affordable housing through child care to transport issues.

While they're all important and none will be left out, we may have more impact if we focus most effort on those that will really make a difference.

We need help in deciding which those are!"

The organizers hope that most people will get a chance to come to one of these market day events and are offering to help with transport if people have difficulty finding a bus or lift.

The numbers to ring are 01654 703965 or 700315.
