Residents and businesses in the Powys part of the Dyfi Valley are creating an action plan to improve the quality of life and vitality of the area.As in a series of meetings held in July, each of the three public events planned for September will focus on a specific theme and will bring together the two community organisations that have been researching local needs. Communities First and the Machynlleth & District Community Forum are keen to see more people involved in planning for the future. The meetings will also discuss the relevant section of the draft Powys Community and Health Strategies. Cyril Evans is Facilitator of the Bro Ddyfi Communities First process. "The July events discussed education, training, the economy, the environment and transport", he explained. "People sorted all the ideas for local improvements into priorities so that we can negotiate with those who have the power to make them happen - which includes community groups and individuals as well as the Council." The first meeting will be held at Llanbrynmair Community Centre on Monday 6th September. It will consider community activities and facilities. Some of the ideas under consideration are long-standing ambitions which now have another chance - such as an all-weather pitch for Machynlleth. Some are aimed specifically at younger or older people and some focus on entertainment. On Monday 13th September, an event at Machynlleth Care Centre in Forge Road will turn its attention to health and community well being. This is a very wide topic, covering community and road safety and Welsh language and culture as well as health issues. The new Welsh Language Board community officer and the Inequalities in Health officer will take part. Health aspects will include exercise and other suggestions for health promotion as well as access to treatment for illness. Housing will take centre stage at Cwmllinau Community Centre on Monday 20th September, when initial results from the recent survey into affordable housing needs will be available. All meetings start at 7.30 p.m. Further information:Communities
