ecodyfi press release

3.02.04

The Machynlleth and District Local Community Forum will turn its attention to housing when it next meets.

An open meeting in Machynlleth will hear from Powys County Council officers and other speakers before considering what can be done about housing problems.

The Forum has been established to enable people in Machynlleth, Glantwymyn, Cadfarch and Llanbrynmair to tell Powys County Council and other agencies what local priorities are.

This will inform the Powys-wide Community Strategy. The Forum is chaired by Andy Rowland and is feeding its discussions into the Communities First process as well.

There will be a presentation by Council officers about the Powys County Council draft Local Housing Strategy.

Summaries will be available at the meeting and the consultation is open until the end of February. Issues include affordable housing and homelessness.

There will also be an explanation of 'Supporting People' (the housing framework for people in particular need) and the Housing Renewal Strategy (support for the private sector).

There will be information about discussions between Glantwymyn Community Council and Powys County Council over a proposal to convert redundant buildings in Cemaes into housing, to meet local needs.

Progress with a Local Housing Needs Survey will be discussed. It is hoped this will produce detailed information about housing need, to inform the design of projects in Cemaes and elsewhere.

Lastly, there will be a report on a conference held at Gregynog about a mechanism allowing communities to hold land in trust for housing (and other purposes). Followed by consideration of how it might be done in the Dyfi valley.

The meeting will be held on Monday February 9th at 7.30 p.m. in the main hall of Ysgol Bro Ddyfi, Machynlleth.
