They will come together on March 17th at the largely redundant site to air their views.

The people of Ceinws and Esgairgeiliog are being asked what they'd like to see on the two hectare site which forms a prominent part of their village.

Ecodyfi, Communities First, Forestry Commission Wales, Glantwymyn Community Council and the Welsh Development Agency are working together to find complementary uses for the site that meet the needs of the local and wider community.

Rural Resources has been contracted to consult local people and other interested parties and to draw up a preliminary feasibility study.

Questionnaires have been sent to all local households and ideas are flowing in.

The two most common suggestions so far are affordable housing for local people and a flat play area.

Another emerging proposal is for a flexible indoor space offering opportunities for business as well as community facilities.

This could include a café serving visitors and locals, offices or studios for 'new media' enterprises, and a meeting room.

Connections with the proposed mountain biking trails are also being suggested.

Further suggestions and comments are being sought, and will be considered at a public event in Ceinws on March 17th, starting at 7.30.

In addition, the consultants will be present at Ceinws Camp between 4 pm and 6.30 pm to receive views.

Alternatively, people may phone Phil Newcombe of Rural Resources on 01938 555759.

Local councillor Hugh Williams is a member of the steering group. "This initiative has got people talking", he said. "Now it's important we get together on the 17th to see what we can do with the ideas".

Andy Rowland of ecodyfi emphasised that people from outside the village would also be welcome to attend.

"Villages with a mix of appropriate housing, facilities and businesses are the ones which tend to thrive", he said.

"There are probably people elsewhere in the Dyfi valley who could set up an enterprise at Ceinws with some support".
