Help conserve our environment and improve our quality of life

press release 3/06/2005

The Dyfi Valley's community regeneration organization will hold its fifth Annual General Meeting on Thursday June 16th.

Members of ecodyfi will meet at Machynlleth Bowling Club at 7.00 p.m. for a light buffet, followed by the AGM at 7.30 and a Forum at 8.00.

Ecodyfi Co-Chair Aled Owen GriffithsEcodyfi Co-Chair Aled Owen Griffiths has put out a call for more people to join the group, so that its impact can be even greater.

In his contribution to the group's annual review, he congratulates the Welsh Development Agency and Environment Wales for supporting the group's efforts to improve our quality of life for the long term.

What's on the menu

  • MP Simon Thomas will be the guest speaker. He is expected to talk about how the Dyfi Valley looks from Westminster, whether its reputation for sustainable living is deserved and what we can all do to improve our world and our community.

  • Ann MacGarry from the Centre for Alternative Technology will lead a session exploring our ecological footprint. It's a way of measuring how much land an individual or a community is using to support their lifestyle. The National Assembly has completed an all-Wales study recently and ecodyfi hopes to follow this up in the autumn with work at a local level. It shows that if everyone in the world lived like the average Welsh person we would need nearly three planets to support us!

  • Teresa Walters will talk about her work with mountain biking. Ecodyfi has helped Dyfi Mountain Biking construct the exciting 'cli-machx' trails behind Ceinws. The increase in visitors is already supporting local jobs in accommodation and catering as well as new bike-related jobs.

All residents and businesses are welcome to attend the event but are asked to book a place by phoning 01654 703965.

They can also pick up a copy of ecodyfi's recently-published 2004 review from Ty Bro Ddyfi at 52 Maengwyn Street in Machynlleth.
