Volunteer work with ecodyfi

Ecodyfi is a locally-controlled third sector organisation and a Company Limited by Guarantee (number 382 5561).

It is not-for-profit but is not registered as a charity at present.

Who we are

Our partners and members include local individuals, private companies, voluntary bodies, local authorities, Snowdonia National Park and the Welsh Development Agency.

They can all influence policy and make things happen by:

  • attending open quarterly Board meetings

  • being elected to the Board or the Management Committee

  • joining themed Working Groups.

The Board consists of the 12 voluntary Directors and two staff Directors.

In September 2001, we launched a formal membership scheme. More than 50 individuals and 14 organisations have paid to join so far, including seven Town and Community Councils.

Our evolution

Ecodyfi was developed during 1997, established in 1998 and incorporated in 1999.

Individuals in Powys County Council and Dulas Ltd were the initiators. To start with it was a 'top-down' organisation. Gradually the centre of gravity has shifted as the local Board members have taken control.

This process has undergone a step-change now, during a review period funded largely by the Welsh Development Agency. The review has clarified that ecodyfi should be the umbrella grouping for community regeneration activity in the valley and not focus narrowly on the 'green economy'.
