Programme for 2004

Agreed two concentrated campaigning points:

  1. Fair Trade Fortnight - Two Weeks - March 1 - 14 March
    Our theme: Buy one and get a free fair trade window sticker. Sell and encourage sales of FT wherever we can. First Fair Trade Valley. Check PO delivery service cost [WH] Go for broad public support.

      7.30pm Thursday 15th January 2004
      Venue to be announced [WH]
    2. Public Meeting in run up to FT Fortnight
      Youth Wing Bro Dyfi School
      7.30 - 8.30 pm (followed by refreshments and sales)
      on Wednesday 11th February 2004
      A5 invites to be produced for local groups etc.

Andy Parnell - Visitor from Powys EDEC, Llanidloes

  1. Noted that we should start registration as a fair trade zone (valley) now as this takes up to six months.
    • We can declare the zone whenever we like after that. [WH to Sarah Garden and Bruce Crowther, FTF and Rowan Thomas, WFTF, Oxfam Cardiff].
    • As well as providing evidence of FT activity, the Dyfi Valley Steering Group would need to monitor FT in the Valley.
  2. A Powys Steering Group was being formed (minutes received) with the aims of:
    1. Making Powys a FT county
    2. Bringing together a grassroots coalition for FT.
  3. Advance notice of a gold, silver, bronze FT status scheme that was being worked out.
  4. Powys Fair Trade Directory to be produced. Any submissions to Andy Parnell (01686 412731, andy@pedec.org.uk). Use as opening to businesses?
  5. Meeting of Powys FT Coalition 22nd January 2004 Llanidlloes, open meeting - all welcome, 10 - 1.30 pm, venue to be announced.
  6. Local FT - noted that Soil Association was looking at criteria for this which would be different to international FT.

  1. Co-op still waiting for meeting [WH] needs more variety in small choc bars
  2. Churches [LB and LB]. Catholic Church Mach will just stock FT, diocese has passed a resolution, Quaker Meeting, lists being compiled.
  3. Accommodation: JR had started to put list together
  4. Schools:
    • DI was working her way around local primary schools doing some 5 lessons in each
    • Vending Machines - www.cafevending.co.uk. Fair trade vending machines sold in Wales.
  5. Businesses
    • Halo Foods - make geobars
    • LH was compiling lists
    • KB, WH cf Presentation folder for talking to businesses
  6. Blewyn Glas - article needed [DI] maybe Deluth Rees would translate
  7. Shops - Spar in Llandridnod Wells had FT stuff, list [KB]

  2. Stickers - add line "Guarantees a better deal for Third World Producers" [WH} 30p each
  3. Leaflet - KJ's idea liked, maybe picture - Africa, A4 folded to A5, colour, English / Welsh, themed for FTF and Dyfi Valley campaign. The full financial benefit of changing to FT in Dyfi Valley. [KJ, WH]
  4. Library - materials at Ecodyfi, 3 books out [PH, KB, JR]
  5. Video - local use only re. copywrite Welsh translation ...
