Fair Trade Fortnight 2005

Bro Ddyfi dros Fasnach Deg : Fairtrade Fortnight in the Dyfi Valley

1-13 March 2005

Stall in the Co-op in Machynlleth for the whole fortnight, where you can enter a quiz, buy a raffle ticket to win a Fairtrade Hamper and sample a selection of fairly traded food.
We hope you will call by and taste from the ever-increasing selection available.

Saturday 12 March

Regina Keith, a banana producer from Dominica will be visiting this stall, 11.00 - 12.30, and she will judge a poster competition that we are holding in local primary schools, come along and meet her.

Stall in Machynlleth Market (outside the The Holey Trail Bike Shop) on where you can find out more about us and buy Traidcraft products.

Wednesday 16 March

Fairtrade Zone Celebration Coffee morning in the Wynnstay Hotel 10.00 - 12.00 when you can taste Fairtrade tea and coffee and meet Aggie Chimanda from Zambia who works with Zambian bee-keepers for Tropical Forest Products, a local company based in Talybont who sell fairly traded honey (contact David Wainright at mail@tropicalforest.com or 01970 832511 for more information, or look at their web site www.tropicalforest.com).
We will serve cakes made with Fairtrade honey, sugar, fruit and chocolate as well as scones and fair trade honey.
Everyone welcome.

  • The fairtrade mark guarantees farmers' organisations a fair and stable price for their products

  • the fairtrade mark guarantees extra income for farmers and plantation workers to improve their lives

  • the fairtrade mark guarantees greater respect for the environment

  • the fairtrade mark guarantees smaller farmers a stronger position in world markets

  • the fairtrade mark guarantees a closer link between consumers and producers

  • A recent MORI poll showed that 39 percent of people recognize the FAIRTRADE Mark and 86 percent of those who buy Fairtrade products stated that the FAIRTRADE Mark was important to them.

  • Fairtrade sales are doubling every two years and all major supermarket chains now stock Fairtrade products
