Fairtrade Oranges from South Africa- A Fairtrade First.

Adding to the existing range of Fairtrade fruits, Fairtrade ORANGES went on sale in the UK on the 21st July. These are the first citrus fruits to receive the FAIRTRADE Mark.

The oranges are grown on the Eastern Cape of South Africa by Sun Orange Farms who are part of the Thandi initiative. The Thandi initiative supports the establishment of empowerment projects in South Africa, where workers become co-owners of fruit farms. More information about the producers can be found in the media section of the Fairtrade Foundation website.

As well as being a Fairtrade fruit "first" in terms of citrus fruits, The oranges are also the first FAIRTRADE Mark products to be sourced from South Africa.

These tasty, succulent oranges are available in most Co-op stores.
