Make the Dyfi Valley a Fair Trade valley - petition from local children
The Machynlleth Gwerin y Coed youth group presenting a petition of 500 signatures for the Dyfi Valley to become a FAIRTRADE Valley, collected during national FAIRTRADE fortnight, to Machynlleth Mayor Mrs Glenda Jenkins, county councillor Michael Williams and local councillor Martin Ashby in front of the FAIRTRADE stall in Machynlleth Co-op. The petition supports a long-term campaign for an increase in the range and volume of FAIRTRADE goods brought and produced in the Dyfi Valley. "It's brilliant to see young people getting the message out to the schools and general public," said Gwerin y Coed helper Will Howard. "FAIRTRADE can really lift cocoa, tea, coffee, banana and other producers out of the poverty created by unfair trade systems." Posted: 21 March 2003. |
