There are a total of 10 places and we are keen to to include men and women of all ages (over 18) from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. We will be holding an Open Evening on Thursday September 4th, from 7:00 - 9:00 PM in the Tabernacl, Heol Penrallt, Machynlleth. The aim of this evening is to show some stories and give people a sense of what goes on in a workshop. It's a great chance for anyone who is curious, to find out more and apply for a place. The workshop will take place on the following days: Thursday October 2nd Gathering 6:00 to 8:00 PM Each of these days is essential to completing a digital story, so it is important that anyone wishing to attend the workshop be able to commit to all of them. For a bit of background, digital storytelling allows people to tell their stories in a new way, using the tools of multi-media production. Bringing along photo albums, precious objects, art work, clips from home videos and a clear idea for a personal story, workshop participants work alongside the Capture Wales team to bring their stories to life using new technology. Equipment used in the workshop includes laptop computers, image manipulation and editing software, scanners and digital cameras. The result is a 2-3 minute mini-documentary (250 words), suitable for showing on the internet or television. Throughout the course of the workshop, each participant will:
There is plenty of help on hand, and no-one need fear that they'll be left struggling. The Capture Wales team includes experienced BBC script editors, video tape editors, radio producers, web producers and IT support staff , and is led by Daniel Meadows, currently lecturer in New Media and Digital Storytelling at Cardiff University. A Digital Storytelling workshop is demanding and intensive, but the emphasis is undoubtedly on FUN! The satisfaction participants experience at the end of the workshop, when they see their film, full-screen, for the first time, makes all the effort worthwhile. And, of course, they have gained a range of new skills. BBC Wales asks each participant to sign a contract, allowing the BBC to show the finished digital story on its websites or, possibly, television. Although the BBC retains copyright, all participants may use their story for their own personal, non-commercial purposes as they choose. Many stories will find their way onto BBC Wales' Capture Wales website which you can explore at: www.bbc.co.uk/capturewales. The welsh language stories can be found on the Cipolwg ar Gymru website: www.bbc.co.uk/cipolwgargymru. Participants whose stories appear on the website will also be asked to write a piece about themselves, to accompany their story. All participants will receive a copy of their film, on tape or CD, in the post within 2 weeks of the end of the workshop. |
